New city, new memories — and one of the greatest cities on earth to share them in. New York during the World Cup is a couple's trip that works on every level: football when you want it, the city when you don't.
What Fanway Plans For Couples in New York
When building a couple's trip to New York, Fanway factors in:
- 3km radius from your location for nearby recommendations
- Romantic and date-friendly venues — scenic areas, quieter dining, rooftop bars
- Shared football experiences — fan zones built for two, not just solo energy
- Neighbourhoods with evening atmosphere that doesn't require a 1am commitment
- NJ Transit match day timing for two
This is what that looks like on the ground.
Day 1 — Arrive Together, Explore Together
Morning: Walk the High Line from the Gansevoort Street entrance northward through Chelsea. It's one of New York's most romantic walks — elevated, green, with city views. Stop for coffee at one of the vendor carts along the route. No rushing.
Afternoon: West Village for lunch. This neighbourhood is made for couples — cobblestoned streets, brownstone townhouses, independent restaurants with proper tables and no tourist rush. Try Buvette on Grove Street for French bistro food in a genuinely beautiful small room.
Evening: Book a table somewhere in the West Village or the surrounding area for dinner. The neighbourhood has some of the best restaurants in the city at a range of prices. Drinks afterward at a bar in the area — no need to go far.
Day 2 — Match Day
Morning: Brooklyn Bridge Park. Take the subway to Brooklyn and spend the morning in Brooklyn Bridge Park — waterfront views of Manhattan, relaxed atmosphere, food vendors. This is a proper couple's morning before a match day afternoon.
Afternoon: Head back to Penn Station well before kickoff and take NJ Transit to MetLife Stadium. Two tickets on NJ Transit, 20 minutes, $5 each. Arrive at the stadium with time to take in the atmosphere together before kick-off.
Evening: Post-match, come back to Manhattan and have dinner somewhere you've been meaning to try. Hell's Kitchen (9th Avenue) has excellent options at all price points — pre-book if you can, or walk in early before the post-match rush.
Day 3 — The City, Your Way
Morning: Central Park. Rent bikes from Citi Bike at one of the docking stations near the south entrance and cycle through the park. Takes about 45 minutes to loop the main road. Romantic, easy, and genuinely lovely on a clear June morning.
Afternoon: Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) or the Metropolitan Museum — depending on your interests. Both are world-class. The Met has a rooftop café with views over Central Park that is worth the museum entry alone in good weather.
Evening: Dinner in Midtown or the Upper West Side. Somewhere with a reservation if possible — New York restaurants book up fast during the tournament. End the evening with a walk around Central Park South at dusk.
Your Plan Should Know You Both Better Than This
This is a starting point. A generic couple's plan for New York.
Fanway builds it around where you're actually staying, what you're both interested in, and the matches on your specific dates. A couple in Williamsburg gets a completely different day plan to one in Midtown — the app knows the difference.
