World Cup 2026 Los Angeles: The Football Fan's Bar Guide

Fanway Team·2026-05-15·6 min read

LA's football bar scene is more dispersed than any other host city in this tournament — a reflection of the city itself. There's no Smithfield Hall equivalent, no single gravitational venue that draws everyone. Instead there are pockets of genuine football culture scattered across the city's neighbourhoods, each with its own crowd and character.

The upside: once you find the right venue for your nation or your style, it tends to be less crowded than the equivalent venue in New York or Miami. The downside: you need to know where to look.

For full Los Angeles planning including stadium logistics, see our Los Angeles World Cup 2026 fan guide.

Best Bars for Watching Matches

The Greyhound — Los Feliz The best dedicated football pub in LA. British-owned, every match shown, and a crowd that has been watching football here for years. The regulars know the game in a way that distinguishes a real football bar from a sports bar that shows football. For any European match, this is where you want to be.

  • Capacity: Medium — intimate by design
  • Best for: Solo fans, couples, British and Australian fans, anyone who wants a knowledgeable crowd
  • What to order: Proper British pub food. The pies are worth it.
  • Booking: Essential for England, Australia, or any high-profile European match — 2 weeks ahead minimum

Ye Olde King's Head — Santa Monica The long-standing British expat institution on the Westside. Decades of tournament experience, reliable atmosphere, and a crowd that knows how to watch a match. Good choice if you're based in Santa Monica or Venice and don't want to travel to Los Feliz.

  • Capacity: Medium
  • Best for: European fans on the Westside, couples, groups of 4–6
  • What to order: Fish and chips, Guinness, anything British
  • Booking: 1–2 weeks for most matches, earlier for England games

Arsenal — Culver City Named for the club and run with genuine football conviction. The closest quality football bar to SoFi Stadium, which makes it the logical pre-match venue for fans heading to Inglewood from the Westside. Good screens, good beer selection, and a crowd that is there for the football.

  • Capacity: Medium
  • Best for: Pre-match gatherings, solo fans, groups heading to SoFi
  • What to order: Standard bar menu, solid beer selection
  • Booking: Walk-in for most matches. Book for knockout round games.

Barney's Beanery — West Hollywood Classic LA dive bar that has been hosting sports events since 1920. The screen setup is good, the crowd is diverse, and the venue handles large match-day volumes well. Less football-specific than the Greyhound but more accessible for fans based in Hollywood or WeHo.

  • Capacity: Large — multiple rooms
  • Best for: Groups, fans who want a casual environment, any nationality
  • What to order: Burgers, chilli, cheap beer. Classic dive bar menu.
  • Booking: Walk-in friendly for most matches. Reserve for USA and knockout games.

Best Bars for Atmosphere

The Greyhound during European matches is the peak atmosphere experience in LA for travelling fans from the UK, Ireland, or Australia.

El Compadre (Hollywood): Not a football bar but a legendary Mexican restaurant with a bar that activates completely during Mexico matches. Mariachi, margaritas, and a crowd that is genuinely celebrating. Go for the Mexico atmosphere experience, not for the screen quality.

Koreatown bars (multiple): K-Town's sports bars are exceptional for Asian-timezone matches — 7am kickoffs that most venues can't be bothered with. The Korean football community follows the game seriously and the atmosphere for South Korea or Japan matches is worth seeking out specifically.

Bars Near SoFi Stadium

Unlike most US stadiums, SoFi is part of Hollywood Park — a mixed-use development with actual restaurants and venues. This changes the pre-match options meaningfully.

At Hollywood Park (walking distance from SoFi):

  • Multiple restaurants and bars in the complex activate on match days
  • The outdoor plazas become a de facto fan zone
  • Arrive 3 hours early to get settled before the crowd peaks

Arsenal in Culver City is the closest quality football bar outside the stadium complex — about 8 miles from SoFi, which in LA traffic means 20–40 minutes depending on the time. Viable for pre-match if you leave early enough.

The honest LA reality: Unlike New York, where Penn Station is the transit hub that concentrates fans, LA's car-dependent culture means pre-match fans are spread across the city. There's no single gathering point. Plan your pre-match venue based on where you're staying, not on proximity to the stadium.

Booking Advice

Book early for:

  • Any match involving Mexico — the demand from the local community is significant
  • USA home games — the most broadly popular matches in the city
  • All knockout round matches
  • England, Brazil, Argentina — large expat and diaspora communities in LA

Walk-in works for:

  • Group stage matches not involving the above
  • Morning kickoffs — the crowd is always smaller
  • Weekday matches (LA's football bar scene peaks on weekends)

How far in advance:

  • Group stage: 1–2 weeks
  • Round of 16 onwards: 3–4 weeks
  • Mexico matches specifically: book as soon as the fixture is announced

What to Expect on Match Day in LA

Traffic is the main variable. LA traffic is significant on normal days. On match days to SoFi, the 405 and surrounding routes will be heavily congested. If you're driving, leave 90 minutes earlier than you think you need to. If you're using rideshare, book before you leave the bar — not when you're standing outside.

The Metro K Line is underused and underrated. Fans who take the Metro to SoFi consistently have a better match-day experience than those who drive or rideshare. It runs directly to the stadium and bypasses the traffic entirely. Check LA Metro's tournament-specific schedule as match day approaches.

Parking is pre-book only. Walk-up parking at SoFi is not available for major events. If you're driving, book your parking pass when you book your ticket.

For families: Hollywood Park's outdoor spaces are genuinely family-friendly for pre-match gathering. Arrive early (3+ hours before kickoff), let the kids experience the atmosphere, eat at the complex, and take your seats with time to spare.
